Admissions Policy and Requirements
At Oak Meadow International School (OMIS), we aren't just enrolling students; we are welcoming new families into our community. We seek students who are curious, compassionate, and ready to embrace our American-based curriculum.
0.0 Definitions
To ensure clarity for all community members, the following terms are defined as used in this policy:
- American Common Core: The academic standards used by OMIS to define what a student should know and be able to do in each grade level.
- EAL (English as an Additional Language): Specialized support provided to students whose primary language is not English to help them access the curriculum.
- Holistic Approach: An admissions review process that considers the "whole child," including academic history, values, and social-emotional fit.
- Offer of Place: A formal invitation for enrollment is sent to successful applicants after assessments and interviews are completed.
- The OMIS Fit: A set of shared core values—Communication, Compassion, and Hard Work—that the school looks for in every prospective family.
1.0 Admissions Criteria
We take a holistic approach to admissions to ensure every child is placed in an environment where they can succeed.
- Age Alignment: Students must meet the age requirements for their grade level as of the start of the academic year.
- Academic Readiness: * Placement Assessments: Prospective students participate in assessments for English Literacy and Mathematics.
- Educational History: Submission of official records and reports from the previous two years of schooling.
- English Language Support: While we offer EAL support, we assess students to ensure they can effectively access our curriculum.

4.0 Content
4.1 Age Eligibility :
To be eligible for admission, a student must fall within the age ranges specified for the applied year group. The school may consider exceptions if it is deemed to be in the child's best educational interest and will not negatively impact other students. Age is a relevant factor for ensuring students can successfully access the curriculum.
4.2 The Application Process :
4.2.1 Application Submission
Families must complete and submit the Application for Admission Form (online or in person), along with all required supporting documentation.
Required documents include:
- A completed Application for Admission Form.
- Copies of the student’s academic reports/transcripts for the previous one to two years (officially translated into English, if applicable).
- Copies of passports and current visas for the student and parents/guardians (for foreign nationals).
4.2.2 Academic Review and Assessment :
Upon receipt of a complete application, the Director of Studies or the Academic Team will review the student’s academic records. For applicants to Grades 2–12, an academic assessment (entrance exam) and/or an interview will be scheduled with the student and parents. This step evaluates the student’s academic readiness, English language proficiency, and individual learning needs.
4.2.3 Application Review and Offer of Place
Following the assessment, the School Principal (in consultation with the Admissions Office) will make an admission recommendation. A successful applicant will receive a formal Offer of Place. This final decision is based on the student’s academic history, assessment results, and class availability.
4.2.4 Acceptance and Fee Payment
To secure enrollment, parents must sign and return the acceptance documents and pay all required fees (including tuition and registration) by the specified deadline. Payment formally secures the student’s place at Oak Meadow International School.
4.2.5 Final Admission and Orientation
Once payment is confirmed, the student’s admission is finalized. The Admissions Office will then provide:
- Confirmation of the start date and class placement.
- The orientation schedule.
- The school handbook and relevant guidelines.
Furthermore, the office will inform all relevant departments (Academic, Administration, etc.) of the new student to ensure a smooth transition. For international students, Oak Meadow may provide support with the student visa application process, where applicable.
4.3 Scholarship Applications:
Oak Meadow International School offers scholarships to talented students. Applicants for these scholarships undergo a more extensive testing and review process. Detailed criteria and further information are available in the separate scholarship documentation.
5.0 Leave of Absence and Re-Entry
5.1 Leave of Absense
- A student’s request for a leave of absence must be approved by the Principal of the respective school section.
- All fees paid by the student will be retained by the school during the leave period.
- Upon return, the Finance Department will review the fee payment status. The student will generally rejoin the grade they were in before the leave. To enter a grade level corresponding to their current age, the student must provide relevant academic records or pass the OMIS entrance assessment.
5.2 Re-Entry
- Re-entry applications will be reviewed by the Admissions Team and the Finance Department, including verification of previous enrollment and fee payment history.
- Re-entering students are not required to pay the application or entrance fees again.
- Deposit handling is as follows:
- If the deposit was previously forfeited due to not meeting refund conditions, no new deposit is required upon re-entry.
- If the deposit was refunded upon withdrawal, a new deposit must be paid upon re-entry.
- All re-entering students must be reassessed by the Principal and complete the required entrance interview and assessment.
